This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have exceptional educational and emotional needs. Many have experienced trauma or have learning disabilities that impact their confidence and overall school success. Our counseling through teaching model serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
The typical student reads at least two grade levels below their current grade and many struggle with basic phonics and number sense.
99% of our students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population. Our department budget is $0 for over 60 students and all counseling materials are purchases privately through our special education providers. It is proven that quality school-based mental services essential for academic and social emotional success in school and increase graduation rates.
My Project
Each year as a school psychologist "the printing dilemma" occurs. Chasing a copy code that ends up being offline or expiring. Walking down halls to print a report or list of counseling tools for students and their parents. Waiting for the office clerk to finish the massive amount of school-wide bulletins to print an IEP. Everyday is faced with time-consuming casualties when it comes to printing at school sites.
Help me give back the much needed attention to our students that they deserve.
Having an HP Laserjet Pro printer with the high-yield toner cartridge will allow me to focus my time and energy where it is needed most - on the students. The printer will allow me to provide all of my students and teachers with necessary information regarding student's social emotional needs, recommended accommodations and modifications so they can reach and maintain academic and social success in class. I will also be able to quickly and easily share information with parents about their child's progress.
School budgets often fail to support psychologists in this area and the irony is, no one has as much paperwork as we do. Please help us print!
