My Students
My classroom is a self-contained kindergarten class.
My student population consists of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disabilities, and Intellectual Disabilities.
Working with this population can be difficult, but it is super rewarding within this environment. I teach the most interesting, caring, well-behaved scholars ever! My school is a student-centered environment filled with "World-Class Teachers!" As a team, we are continuously brainstorming ways to evolve as educators, and we are also advocates for family involvement in the learning process!
My Project
My students are 4-6 years of age. Some of my students have autism and have difficulty expressing their needs and wants. PECS or the Picture Exchange Communication System is used to assist students with communication. When my children have the ability to communicate, they are less frustrated and more motivated to learn. Students can a choose a picture and give it to an adult or peer to communicate their wants, needs, or preferred activity.
Every person deserves the right to communicate.
The earlier we get them using a communication system the better prepared they will be for their future education. That is why I am asking for ink and laminating sheets. Please help my students communicate.
