Help Us Overcome the COVID Slump

Help me give my students some great literature and games to increase their motivation to read, to teach them how to deal with their emotions, and to help them learn to work cooperatively.

My Students

My students are devoted learners who love learning in a dual immersion setting. My students are special because they are so motivated to learn in two different classrooms; one English-speaking and the other Spanish-speaking. They are excited to participate in classroom discussions and love to learn in a student-centered classroom.

My Project

Please help us purchase books that I can use to help my students learn how to deal with emotions--a skill that many of them haven't been explicitly taught while they were doing online learning. I plan to read the picture books during my Morning Meetings to help discuss these emotions and how to deal with them appropriately. Also, please help me increase my student's reading levels by providing high-quality chapter books! I plan to read these with my small reading groups to help students improve their reading skills. Most of my students returned to in-person learning with lower reading skills than we had hoped! Many of these books are also a series--a great way to get kids addicted to reading!

One of the biggest problems that I am trying to overcome since the pandemic is teaching students how to work together again!

To help with this, I am also wanting some new, cooperative games that I can use as a whole group review. For example, Headbands will be used to help us review our vocabulary words for the week. Additionally, Kerplunk will be used to review math concepts. I plan to use the whiteboard pockets as game boards during reading groups and with my whole class! Eggspert will be a great addition to our classroom to increase student engagement during whole group instruction. I envision using this to have students "buzz in" with their responses after having time to talk with small groups. Finally, I am excited to use the whiteboard spinners to help students review various math skills and vocabulary words--we pick our review based on where the spinner lands.
