My students need warm clothing like jackets and long sleeve polos, food like goldfish, poptarts, and granola bars. They also need hygiene products like deodorant and convenience kits that include toothpaste, shampoo, toothbrush, and razors.
"Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful." Mary Shelley, Frankenstein. I am a Special Education teacher in a large, urban school district. I can tell you that it takes a whole lot of fearless to be a student with a learning disability.
My students are amazing individuals.
They come to school every day knowing that they don't necessarily learn like everyone else, but they put their heart and soul into everything they do. I always tell them that if they are willing to put in the effort, I will make sure that they get everything they need out of their education, and hopefully more. I want my students to learn that hard work is it's own reward, and that a good attitude can get you almost anywhere you want to go.
My Project
I teach 127 middle schoolers ages 10-15. My students on a daily basis come to school without having their basic needs met. They often come to me for snacks because they have not eaten, looking for clean clothes because they weren't able to wash theirs, and for hygiene projects. I try to provide all of these items to kids because I know they cannot learn without having their basic needs met first. I need help providing these essential items to the kids I teach. This project will help provide food, clothes, and hygiene products to 127 kids! The items will be kept in our behavioral facilitators room where the kids feel comfortable and whenever they ask or we see they need an item; they can retrieve it from there. Kids should not have to learn on an empty stomach or worry about finding warm clothes in winter. This project will make a huge difference for the kids at my school. Thank you for your help!
