My Students

Help create a meaningful and authentic learning experience for my shining 2nd graders! Our goal this year is to have each student grow 1-1 1/2 years of growth, but it can be difficult to get there without basic supplies for our literacy centers. BUT YOU CAN HELP!

Being a teacher is no easy job, but I could not see myself doing anything else.

My students and I face many obstacles and challenges, but we work to overcome them each day. I currently teach in Philadelphia, at an urban school located in the West Philadelphia area. My 20 students are energetic and ready to learn! They come into my classroom with different personalities and backgrounds, but each has a special place in my classroom. Our school is a place where students thrive academically, care for one another, and contribute to a safe and supportive learning and social environment. We support one another!

My Project

By donating to my project, you are helping my students develop reading skills needed to be lifelong readers! Each product on my list serves a specific purpose, in which I have outlined below: Magnetic Letters: Many of my students have difficulty blending and segmenting sounds. During literacy centers, students will work with magnetic letters to properly blend and segment sounds. This also will serve as a visual, so students can see what is being blended or segmented. Fluency and Comprehension Cards: Fluency and comprehension are essential skills for any successful reader. Getting students to be fluent and comprehend simultaneously is the BIGGEST hurdle we encounter in 2nd grade. Providing my students with fluency and comprehension cards will enable them to get more practice. Besides PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! Clipboards and Pocket Chart: This will make working in literacy centers so much easier!

This year at my school, we have a push to improve literacy in the primary grades.

Studies show that students who cannot read fluently and comprehend by 3rd grade, will unfortunately fall behind. BUT YOU CAN KEEP THAT FROM HAPPENING. By donating to my project, you will be helping students to acquire the necessary skills to keep them from falling behind. You will also be supporting our school's literacy initiative!
