Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I see over 400 students each week in my classroom! I am the music teacher at a high-poverty school in Central California. My kindergarten, first and second grade students have music once a week, and my seventh and eighth grade students have music every day.
These days, it's nearly impossible to buy the "extras" in education. What little money we have is spent on text books and other essentials, leaving nothing left over for musical instruments, play equipment--the FUN stuff! My district is lucky to still have music teachers.
I have been doing the very best I can with limited materials, using singing and movement games to teach music. I would love to add some fun percussion instruments to my classroom to make music even more engaging and exciting.
I need a good variety of percussion instruments--pitched and unpitched to teach my students about rhythm, melody, harmony, music notation, dynamics and all of the other fun, amazing concepts that music teaches. Boomwhackers are a fun way for kids to learn about pitch, and the most fun part is that they're meant to be whacked! Various percussion instruments would help me teach about different styles of music from all over the world. A set of music posters would liven up my walls and give my kids instant access to the information I want them to know.
Your help will make it possible for my students to learn about music in a fun, controlled-noisy environment. Music is good for the brain and the soul--your donation will give huge gifts for many years.
