Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
From a birthday surprise to a sibling's birth to the first day of school, third grade writers in my classroom are working hard every day to write, revise and share their stories. They use pictures, words, and numbers to represent their mathematical reasoning.
The diverse students at our charter school in New York are experts in choral singing who study music for a minimum of two periods a day.
As musicians, they know songs sound better when we work together and listen to each person's voice. A document camera will allow them to apply that same principal to our entire learning day by sharing our thinking and making our work public.
My Project
Right now, third grade writers share their work by sitting in the Author's Chair, reading aloud, and discussing their process. With a document camera, our class will be able to see a student's work as she reads. Imagine discussing a revision strategy while examining one student's work together!
In our classroom, mathematicians are able to discuss tricky problems at their tables and share strategies by transferring work onto the white board. Imagine how amazing it will feel when a student can immediately share an epiphany with the class by placing their math notebook under our document camera!
Sharing work samples is just one way a document camera will enrich our classroom. As we move into a study of geography, we will be able to analyze maps together, compare landforms together, and discuss global population growth together by examining primary documents as a class.
A document camera will enable our classroom community to learn and grow together in exciting in new ways.
We will be able to work collaboratively in real time. A document camera will provide us with the opportunity to examine student work products as the rich, illuminating, instructive, and inspiring artifacts they are.
Please help our class celebrate our work, share our thinking, and learn together.
