The books purchased are in students' first languages. They include stories and texts in Portuguese, Spanish, Bengali, Arabic, Nepali and French. Students need to have books in their home language because it directly supports their English language development in various ways. \r\n\r\nFor example, books in a student's first language help to build strong literacy foundations: When students read in their first language, they strengthen skills like comprehension, vocabulary, and story structure—all of which transfer to learning English.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, it supports background knowledge: Reading in a familiar language allows students to learn new ideas and concepts without the extra challenge of decoding English, helping them connect what they already know to new English vocabulary.\r\n\r\nAnother important impact of home language books is how they encourage confidence and motivation: When students see their language and culture reflected in books, they feel valued and capable as readers, which increases their willingness to engage with English texts.\r\n\r\nHome language books also promote family involvement: Home-language books allow parents and caregivers who may not speak English to read with their children, building a supportive literacy environment.\r\n\r\nLastly, they strengthen cognitive flexibility: Bilingual reading helps students see connections between languages, improving problem-solving and metalinguistic awareness—skills that make learning English easier.\r\n\r\nThank you for all your generosity and support.","fullyFundedDate":1758899083860,"projectUrl":"project/multilingual-books-for-our-multilingual/9678626/","projectTitle":"Multilingual Books for Our Multilingual Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCormack","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9325827"},{"teacherId":9325827,"projectId":8783284,"letterContent":"Thank you SO much for all of your generous donations.
