Mrs. Wiltz from Baton Rouge LA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need books for an author study, card stock, printer ink, laminating pouches to create their own class books, and headphones to help conduct online research.

I want my students to have a deeper love of reading by introducing multiple books written by beloved authors such as Dr. Seuss and Eric Carle. I also want them to take pride in their writing by creating classroom books we can keep in our classroom library.
My goal is to lay a strong educational foundation for all of my kindergarten students.
I strive to expose them to as many educational experiences as possible and to introduce them to a variety of rich content to practice their new skills. Kindergarten is an amazing and extremely challenging grade to teach as I receive students who have absolutely no academic skills to those who are beginning to read. Most of my students come from low income homes that have not placed a high priority on education. I also have several Special Education Students in my class each year. I feel privileged to teach kindergarten because I can lay the foundations for a love of learning and instill an importance for education in them. I witness the most significant growth in kindergarten due to my student's developmental ages and the exposure to so much information presented in fun, meaningful ways. My students come to me uncertain about their abilities but leave confident learners.
I have many students who proclaim they do not like to read, or listen to stories. In kindergarten I am creating an environment where reading and listening to stories read aloud is an enjoyable experience. After reading a story I create fun and exciting ways for my students to retell the stories. We act them out in over dramatizations, we retell the stories inserting student name in place of some of the characters. We paint murals on butcher paper to convey the main ideas. I am attempting to create more interest in reading my doing an author study of beloved books by Dr. Seuss and Eric Carle. I also want to give my students an incentive for writing by allowing them to create classroom books. I would like to create at least one set for each child to be able to take home at the end of the school year.
Students at our school have a very difficult time with writing and reading comprehension skills.
If I can give my students a strong foundation and interest in both of these areas it would help them succeed in later grades.
