This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love to build things with their hands and use the Design Process to work through problems, just like engineers do. Our curriculum, Launch, through Project Lead The Way (PLTW), allows them to do just this.

When we are doing a PLTW unit, the library is full of sounds of collaboration, excitement and learning.

They are asking questions, exploring options, developing models, evaluating their models and then explaining why their model does or doesn't work. This curriculum has been in our school for the past 4 years and I have seen the students really grow in terms of perseverance and knowledge of the design process. Without this curriculum there will be no STEM curriculum at our school, therefore we will not be able to prepare our students for careers in the engineering and medical field. We will also not be able to continue to introduce our students to the Design Process, which builds critical thinking skills.
