My students need several cleaning supplies (tissues, dish soap, dish sponges, and surface sanitizer) to help keep each other and our guests safe and healthy when we are working together in our culinary arts classroom kitchen.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my classroom, the students are focused on learning about culinary arts. Our school is home to many Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that provide opportunities for job preparation after high school. We have a great arts program, as well.
Our school is a large, urban, public high school with almost 2,000 ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse students.
The campus has five small learning communities and is home to our school's Math/Science Magnet. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds, with a majority of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the area. Our students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Tagalog, and more.
My Project
As culinary arts students, my classes learn the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment in the kitchen. These requested cleaning supplies will help us to keep everything as clean as can be.

All the cleaning supplies requested in this project will help my students learn responsibility because they learn that cleaning up is an essential part of cooking. They will not only learn important skills, but will also come to value and appreciate kitchen safety even more! Keeping up a safe and sanitary environment will also help cut down on germs as well as decrease the likelihood of food-borne illnesses.
A variety of cleaners and supplies have been requested. We have a large amount of laundry to do, from rags to aprons to chef jackets. The laundry baskets, detergent, and bleach will help with that. The food service sanitizer and wipes can be used in both in the kitchen and in the classroom so that germs won't be transferred from place to place. The students wash dishes by hand so the dish soap and scrubbers are must-have items. The shop rags will be utilized for everyday cleaning. All of these cleaning products will really go a long way towards keeping everyone clean and healthy.
