Our kindergarten class is made up of 20 active learners.
We are constantly on the go, asking questions, and finding creative ways to learn new information. Our school is located in an under-resourced neighborhood, but our students would never know it inside their classroom! We believe in giving our students every opportunity that children deserve. We desire for them to achieve their dreams - and more!
My Project
We have a beautiful library of books on tape in our classroom, which covers all subject areas. The books have rich vocabulary and stunning illustrations. Our audio materials, however, are no longer working. The one boombox that we have sounds muffled, and the headphones cut in and out, which is very frustrating for our students. With the individual cassette players, students will be able to find a comfy spot in the classroom to listen to a book on tape. The splitter will allow students to work in partners as they listen. The boombox will give us the option to allow the class as a whole to listen to books on tape or use the headphones for individual or partner listening.
Studies have shown that listening to stories increases fluency, builds vocabulary, and provides access to otherwise unreadable literature.
With the fulfillment of this project, our students will finally be able to listen to all the wonderful books on tape that we already have in our classroom!
