Help Us Grow With Our Outdoor Learning Center 2

I need to complete professional development so that I can offer my students a place where they can grow and learn at our outdoor lab.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the best 5-year-old students! I want to use our outdoor learning center for our children to incorporate into all aspects of their academics—including writing, reading, science, math, and social studies—as well as to nurture social-emotional health.

The benefits of gardening in early childhood are physical, emotional, spatial, mathematical, sensory awareness, character development, creative ideas, and a love and appreciation of nature.

Time in the garden allows for team building and promotes communication skills. Planning a garden, planting the seeds, and watching them grow give kids a sense of purpose and responsibility. Making sure that the plants get enough fertilizer, water, and sun fosters mindfulness. Studies show that garden-based nutrition education improves students' eating habits by increasing their knowledge of, preference for, and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Gardening teaches a lot of emotional development as they learn about failure and disappointment as well as success. They also learn about the plant’s needs, which helps them learn about other living things' needs. Learning to take care of a living thing has untold benefits.

Through virtual professional development, I will be able to acquire new teaching strategies to benefit my students at our outdoor learning lab by providing effective lessons that will ensure their growth. I am eager to gather as much technical training as I can to give my students the advancement into the future I believe they deserve.
