Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is made up of a diverse community. Students here come from many different places from within and out of the United States. They all have had unique life experiences. For many of my students this is their first school experience. Kindergarten students are awesome and active learners. They are so eager to learn new things and experience new lessons.
The one thing that all my students have in common is their love of using hands-on- learning.
My young learners come in each morning excited and eager to learn, explore, create, and have fun. Because of their enthusiasm, I try to provide as many memorable learning experiences as I can. I have found with my young learners that more learning takes place when they are excited and engaged in the lessons. I want to foster a love of learning in my class by providing materials that engage their minds.
My Project
For many of my students, this is their first school experience. Some have had part time pre-school and some full time. Because of this my students are all at different levels and I need to be able to provide hands-on materials to meet all these levels. The Lakeshore Learning sets will meet different levels of learning and all are hands-on. The Learning Letters Activity Centers will get them excited about alphabet practice with hands-on exploration. The students can follow the prompts on the activity cards in each of the three different centers. The Write and Wipe Alphabet Practice cards will reinforce writing skills and letter sounds. The Letter Crayon Word Building Center and I Can Build Simple Words Kit will help the students that have letter recognition skills and are ready to move on the making words.
My young learners come to school excited and ready to learn and the best way is hands-on!
My students are so excited when they learn to recognize letters, then words and these materials will help them do just that. I try to find activities that are fun and reinforce what learning is happening in the class. These independent activities will help my students learn letters and words to help them become successful readers.
