Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Eighty percent of my students are low-income and are representative of the diverse linguistic and culturally heritages of Chicago. My students have enormous potential to transform their lives. The biggest challenge they face is learning how to unlock that potential.
Learning leadership skills through physical activity provides opportunities for students to learn how to interact with each other and grow as learns.
Our school is unique because it offers a gifted academic program for bilingual Spanish and Polish students. In addition to weekly physical education classes, our school provides before school and after school programming to teach about sports, teamwork and community building.
Our school offers an Early Childhood Pre-K program which feeds into of primary general education program. Developing physical education skills young children is crucial for their physical, social-emotional and academic skills. Our school is centered around teaching social-emotional skills to help support our students in becoming compassionate, kind well reserved citizens of the world.
My Project
Middle school students are expected to keep track of things, their assignments, exams, before and after school activities. There is a lot to keep track of in their very busy, young lives. Students need help and support learning a system to help keep them on task and track important events and whatever responsibilities they have to manage in their lives. Teachers have to be able to teach students how to be organize and manage the demands of their academic and social calendars, so that students can have success in the classroom.
During lunch period advisory, I have started working with a small group of 8th graders that are interested in learning more about how bullet journals can help them become more organized and stay on top of the demands of their academic and personal calendars.
Students shared with me the mounting demands and pressures associated with preparing for the high school application process. As they observed me use a bullet journal to keep track of the important tasks, they became curious if I could teach them how to use this tool for themselves.
If your support of this project, students will be able to began to learn how to bullet journal and bridge the demands of their middle school lives into their first year of high school. Students will have created records of their lives, tasks, events and academic accomplishments over the course of a year. Teaching students the system of bullet journal will help them become more organized and ready to meet the needs of their high school careers and beyond.
