Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We have all had that experience when we cannot sit still, which makes it difficult to get anything done. For most of us, this happens intermittently and we can usually overcome it. For my students, this difficulty focusing is something they face everyday.
My students make up all of the 11th grade resource students at our school.
We have created a small community in our classroom and work together every day to reach our goals. Being students in a resource classroom, they have a difficult time remaining focused throughout an hour period. Their minds and bodies are constantly moving, productive and not. I want to provide them with a form of distraction that is concentrated on their seat and not their classmates. My students are curious and show an excitement to learn, the challenge is getting them to focus their desires to learn and finding a way to produce an output of learning through more focused time.
My Project
I am requesting 15 of these balance discs to help my students focus. The way we will use these may be unconventional, but effective. I will put each one of these balance discs on my students seats so that during class if they feel they are getting restless they can move their bodies side to side and left and right on these discs as they regain their focus. These discs will help them expel their excess energy on their seats rather than by calling out loud.
Having these balance discs will help my students focus every day in class and move us closer to reaching our class and individual goals.
If my students can see how focusing in their energy in a positive way can help them they can apply it to their other classes and take this skill with them outside the classroom as well.
