I am fortunate to work with a fun-loving group of second graders that are eager to learn about something new in the world every day. They work diligently to learn new skills and concepts. Most of my students are from low income homes and lack the ability to obtain school supplies needed in our classroom. All students are part of our free breakfast and lunch program.
It always amazes me how excited they are to learn every day when they walk through my door!
Their youth and exuberance to try new things and not give up until they figure something out is priceless!
My Project
My students often work on Chromebooks to enhance their math, reading and writing skills. They also use the Chromebooks to research science and social studies concepts. The majority of programs we use have audio and video embedded in them.
The children are able to focus on specific tasks on their Chromebooks without the distraction of "noise" from neighboring computers when they are wearing headphones.
Students are easily distracted when they can hear their neighbors computer. This means they don't get the most out of their computer time.
I often find myself redirecting students to the activities on their computers. Many times throughout our day, students are engaged in various activities that do not include their Chromebooks. If there are students working on their computer without headphones on, the noise can be very distracting to students trying to read or write. The portable lap desk will help me encourage students that find it more challenging to focus, find their own quiet place to work.
