About My Students

I personally invited some of my previous and current students on this educational trip to Belize, as I want to be able to extend their learning about Biology, Zoology, and Ecology beyond the classroom environment and outside the familiar New England Landscape. The group is very diverse in their interests, how they best learn, and what they will find challenging and enlightening on this trip. Some find school easy, others struggle in a traditional setting but thrive in hands-on, experiential settings. Some are quiet, thoughtful and creative, others are extroverts, and bold leaders. Some have had opportunities to travel, while for others, this will be their first time out of the region. All have a love of learning...and I am excited to have the opportunity to see them grow not only in their knowledge of science, but also in themselves and humankind. Please consider helping Malachi, Anna, Jack, Carson, Connor, Gage, Delia, Laura, Raul, Nick, Dylan, Kacie, Ryan expand their horizons!

Traveling exposes people to new ways of thinking. Traveling at a younger age allows people to use these new ways of thinking and utilize them to help better their lives. On a more academic note, this trip allow us to learn first hand about the jungles and coasts of Central America, and see how the ecosystems function in a more personal and intimate setting. Students will also learn teamwork as they explore an unfamiliar setting, and gain a greater understanding of the importance of biodiversity to the health of our planet.

Donations of any size are valuable and greatly appreciated! Here is an idea of what different donations can provide:

$5-lunch

$10-museum admission

$30-bus fare to/from airport

$50-1 night hotel

$75-snuba excursion

$100-tips for tour guides

$500-round trip airfare for one student

My students have been working hard to fund raise; but still need help from people like you that know the life-changing, eye-opening value of travel!

In Their Own Words

We want to obtain the necessary funding to take a trip to Belize. In these hard economic times, it can be hard to pay for something as expensive as an educational tour in a different country. However, this trip would be a fantastic social and academic experience, and would not only help us grow as people but would increase our understanding of the world and help give us the tools to succeed in life.

Our group is diverse, like our school, and the world. What we all have in common, however, is that we have been introduced to Biology, Ecology, and/or Zoology in Ms. L's class. We know that we will not only learn from the tour guides and Ms. L-we will learn from each other. The variety of activities scheduled on our trip will allow for each of us to take a leadership role in the group, at some point, based on our individual strengths.

Most students our age don't have the opportunity to travel. Many have never left the New England area. This trip will give us the ability to see the world through a different lens, and see how other people solve problems and deal with issues. It will give us the chance to expand our understanding and the world as a whole. The world seems big, but in fact it is smaller than it seems. What happens in one country does affect others-environments have no borders. We hope to gain insight on how important ecosystems, even as far away as Belize, affect us all.
