Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year, over 100 students participate in cultural performances and our talent show. This is roughly 20% of our student body! Unfortunately, MHSHS does not have practice space of its own where students can practice free of cost and see themselves as they improve their performances. Traditional dance spaces hold mirrors that allow performers to see their moves and make improvements. Often times, our students, clubs and affinity groups pay out of pocket to rent dance studios around the city in order to have a space to improve and perfect their routines. This year, there have been fewer spaces available at a free or low cost for our students, making it more difficult for them to practice.

Our students are high academic achievers, but also share a vested interest in cultural and popular dance as a form of expression.

The addition of these mirrors will give our students the space, free of charge, to improve their craft, increase their bonds as groups and continue to show pride in their passions and in their culture.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
