Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 27 wonderful 5th grade students, who include special education students, magnet students, English Language learners, and intervention students.

They are very enthusiastic about learning and are always eager to explore new things.

They love coming to school every day, and always have a big smile on their faces, despite the socioeconomic hardships they endure in the community in which they live. They attend a school in California, in a low income neighborhood. The school is both a regular and highly gifted/magnet institution. However, my students are part of the regular school, and do not have access to the materials and enrichment activities that the magnet students have.

My Project

Since we do not have enough computers in the classroom, students will work in collaborative groups. They will use the MacBook Pro to visit websites such as BrainPop to watch videos, read articles, and take quizzes pertaining to Physical Science, Earth Science, and Life Science. In addition, they will use the computer to conduct research on various science topics, such as the Solar System, Body Systems, and the Elements. Students will then make a PowerPoint presentation to share their findings with the class. I strongly believe that students will be more engaged and willing to learn if the material is presented in a way that is entertaining, fun, and relevant to their lives.
