This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a safe haven, a place where kids can work toward a common goal. Our students need somewhere safe to be, a place off of the tough, local streets. Kids at our school learn commitment, teamwork, and pride as well as academic skills.
I am the 7-12 grade chorus teacher as well as the assistant marching band director.
I also work with the beginning band students in grades four through six. Our students are vibrant and love to be the center of attention. All of the students in our school receive free breakfast and lunch, and there are after school activities that serve extra meals so kids don't go hungry.
However, our budget is non-existent. Our building is old and hasn't been updated much since it was originally built in the early 1900s. Sounds like a great place for modern learners, right?
My Project
My students love 3D printing. I currently have two printers, but as my kids become better designers, their designs tend to take longer to print. Designs can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 5 or 6 hours. This additional printer will enable me to print more students' work, more quickly.
My kids really enjoy seeing their designs come to life.
Who wouldn't - 3D printing is something that many adults don't understand, but they didn't grow up with, so they don't have experience with it. Your donations will allow me to expand my printing lab with a newer model of a printer.
