Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of us grew up in an area where we did not have to be afraid to get up and go to school in the morning. This is not the case for my children. For my first grade students, this is a part of their daily lives. Help me to help them learn how to deal with bullying.

I work for a metro Atlanta Title 1 school.

88% of my students are on a free or reduced lunch. Over half of my students are second language learners. The area surrounding the school is a poverty stricken area with a high crime rate. Although my students face such experiences as getting mugged on their walk to school of finding drug needles on their local playground, they are the most happy and loving group of children. I feel that I need to help make a positive impact on them now before they become jaded by the experiences they are bound to face. Help me to do this by teaching them how to deal with bullying through books. In addition to reading about how the characters in books deal with bullying, their love of reading can provide an escape for them from their own lives.

My Project

I am requesting several books on bullying, including a collection of books which contain many books on bullying and children who overcome their circumstances. I am also requesting a book display to prevent our new books from becoming damaged by sitting in stacks in the book corner of the room. It will also help to pique the children's interest in these books. Finally, I am requesting paper that we can respond to the books about bullying in. We have already depleted the paper supply we were given for the year, and my low income students don't have the resources to buy more.

Please help me to positively impact the lives of my students and help them to create a different outlook on their lives.

I wish to stop the cycle of bullying and possibly prevent them from eventually joining one of the many local gangs. Help me to do this by funding this project.
