This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a high poverty school and we have no budget for music. I want to buy some quality instruments for classroom use and for the after school Orff Ensemble.

My students attend a high poverty school and receive 100% free breakfast and lunch.

The rural town does not offer many opportunities for cultural events. We try to bring events (opera, concerts) to them whenever possible. In addition, our after school Orff Ensemble allows our students a chance to perform and have important musical experiences.

My Project

The bell tree is an important instrument for an Orff Ensemble. Each student will be at his/her unique level. I need instruments on which anyone can be successful. This includes non-rhythmic "color" instruments like the bell tree. The sound is improved and beginning musicians can have instant success.

My project is important because without the Orff Ensemble, my students do not have the opportunity to become familiar with the performance portion of their music.

Music is a performing art; if we do not play concerts, we will miss an important part of our curriculum. Young elementary school students like to perform; they just need a vehicle in which to do so.
