My Students

Every day my students greet me at the door with a high five or some form of a handshake. They are eager to start the day and are excited about learning. What they are most excited about is afternoon play centers where they have free choice for their learning.

We are in a rural community where many of my students don't have opportunities to experience the world.

I strive to provide a brain-compatible classroom for all my students through cooperative learning and conscious discipline.

My Project

Building number sense in kindergarten is essential for developing mathematicians.

This kit will help enable my students to interact with hands-on material that is powerful for retaining and building number sense.

The use of the Dot Subitizing Basic Cards, Set of Five/Ten/Double Ten-Frame Cards, 20-Bead Demonstration Rekenrek, Number Path Pocket Chart, and Math Talks are tools that will aid me towards helping my students "catch" number sense. They have to learn it by doing not being told. Children learn best by playing so help me give them these opportunities. Number sense helps children see the relationships, in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Math builds on itself without a solid foundation child will struggle to learn their number facts.
