Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are 15 to 19-year-old immigrants who came to this country from Central America to pursue an education. They are motivated and hard-working but the majority of them were forced to leave school in their country after 5th grade because their families couldn't afford school fees or needed them to work. Their low reading levels mean that learning English is even harder for these students than most. So, to help them build high-school academic skills, my students take a Spanish language literacy class.

We need Spanish language books to turn each one of our students into strong readers!

We're building an independent reading program full of high-interest, accessible books that will broaden our students' perspectives and build academic knowledge and skills in Spanish that they can then transfer to learning English. Thank you for helping my students become life-long readers in both of their languages!
