My Students

I teach general music and chorus in a public elementary school, which also houses a specialized program for students with autism, and a private school for students with exceptional needs. My students are inquisitive, enthusiastic, caring, and kind.

Music is a place where students come together to engage in learning about themselves, each other, and the world around them.

Each day we face new content and challenges together, and while our class period is short, it is filled end to end with singing, dancing, and moving.

My Project

I have taught music at my current school for seven years, and for seven years I have taught in a portable classroom. If you've been in a portable, you know that they are damp, cramped, and not very conducive to teaching and learning. I have managed to decorate and organize my classroom so it is fun and exciting, however the air quality is absolutely dreadful. I have suffered multiple respiratory illnesses and permanent damage to my lungs during my time in this classroom, and I worry about the impact this has on my students. I'm hoping to purchase an air purifier large enough to filter the air in my classroom, providing a healthier environment for my students, and allowing me to spend more time in the classroom free from illness!

Every child attends music class at least twice a week, and every child will benefit from this project!
