Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How many of you still have some of those little "works" of art that you created as a child? Not only does art pique interest and foster creative minds, but it often provides childhood mementos that will be treasured by families for years to come.
If you've seen the movie "Stand and Deliver", you'll have some idea of our school, only the kids are much younger... Most of them come from low income homes, and move many times throughout the school year.
Most of them have a family member incarcerated in one of the several penal institutions in our area. Many of them are foster children.
The staff and teachers at our school work hard to provide these children a safe and inviting classroom environment. We try to provide them with little extras (and sometimes essentials) that they do not get at home. Supporters of Donors Choose will help me to provide them with a classroom experience that they will never forget!
My Project
The colorful sand that I have requested will allow my students to create art projects that will extend their learning in science and geography units. Using a medium that can be spread, layered, or poured will not only appeal to my tactile learners, but will also bring the curriculum to life and make learning fun!
The Physical Education equipment that I have requested will be used to provide a fun and creative option to the usual games that most of the students play during recess (especially the hula hoops and game manual that I have requested). Additionally, balls are in short supply at our school, and unless my kids are the first ones out on the playground, there is nothing left for them to play with at recess. Having our own basketballs and hula hoops will ensure that my class gets good physical exercise during P.E. and recess as well.
These donations will help make learning fun and exciting.
It only takes a little art project to spark a lifelong learning of science or geography, and bring those subjects to life!
Kids in high poverty areas often suffer from malnutrition and less than stellar health. The PE equipment that I am requesting will help pique their interest in physical activity and will literally add years to their lives with increased good health.
