My Students

The thrill of being part of a team is something you carry with you your entire life. It is a memory to lean on. Happiness. Our team is a cheerleading squad. We are small but we are full of spirit and determination.

I coach 10 incredible athletes who dedicate more time and energy to their chosen sport than I ever remember having as a teenager.

All of my girls push to be better than they were the year before, learning new skills, harder dances or gymnastic tumbling. Our school is very small and most funding is relegated to football and basketball, the "big" sports. We cheer for our boys with pride and fierceness. Unfortunately, we are often left out when it comes time to purchase new equipment.

My Project

We have worked really hard to fund-raise this year to afford to attend our first competition! Everyone is very excited and we have pushed hard to be where we are this year, but.... All my girls worry we won't be as good as the other teams because we have no tumbling or advanced stunts in our routine. None of my students can afford private lessons or one-on-one coaches. I am requesting a DVD of tumbling stunts so we can get some ideas and a wedge mat so we can practice stunts and tumbling. Using the wedge incline mat we can work on our tumbling skills such as front and back handsprings and tucks. I can teach the girls these skills with the right equipment and each group of new freshman can also benefit each year! The video "Elite Partner Stunts and Transitions" will help us to learn more advanced stunting skills so we can bring our level at competitions higher, as well as show off for our home team crowd at football/basketball games and pep rallies! We can't afford to attend cheer camps to learn these skills but we can still learn them through the video.

Our cheer program would improve by literal leaps and bounds with the addition of these materials.

We hope to be recognized as an actual program and not just a spirit activity club after we "fingers crossed" win at our first competition. We know it may take a few years to win but with a lot of hard work, we also know it will be more than worth it. With your help and support, on top of our own hard work, we can become more than we have ever dreamed possible.
