This school year, I redesigned many of my assignments to focus the writing on the students themselves.\r\n\r\nAn important part of these assignments is that they build from one writing session to the next. One of the challenges of this approach is getting students to keep all of their writing assignments. As small as that seems, it creates a real obstacle in helping them review the writing they have already completed and build on top of that work. The folders that were provided help students keep all of their writing in an organized and accessible place. We have used the paints and rocks to create a Kindness Rocks initiative in our school. The rocks have positive messages on them, and they get hidden/tagged/hid again for someone else to find!\r\n\r\nWe have used the snacks at our blood drive, during a field trip to our local nursing home, and during a mentoring session for a mental health awareness session.\r\n\r\nFinally, our biggest goal was met by using the painting supplies for our Red Ribbon week events. We focused on four important topics, one being mental health awareness. As someone that has lost a close family member to suicide, I cannot thank you enough for giving us the resources to help spread the awareness of the importance of caring for our mental health.
