This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever been to an art gallery and been in awe of the beautiful inspiring artwork? Have you ever wished that you were one of those artists that had their artwork chosen to be in the Museum of Modern Art? I want to instill this sense of pride and achievement in my students, and I need your help!
My talented art students are from a high needs public school in NY, in which many of them are bilingual and English language learners.
We are very fortunate to have a principal and school that supports the arts. We're also fortunate to have an art program that supports our students in learning English. Unfortunately, as funds get cut, our budget for art supplies suffers greatly. Our students are motivated and eager to become well-rounded artists and individuals; but without proper supplies, they are missing out on valuable experiences fostered by a meaningful art education.
My Project
At the end of each project, we have a discussion of the artwork the students created. We hang up the artwork in the classroom and share our thoughts, feelings, and highlight what we learned from the project. This experience is very enriching for our students, especially our English language learners. It's wonderful watching them have an in depth conversation about their creations. It helps them develop good self-esteem and respect for one another. I want to take these experiences they have in the classroom and share them with our entire community! I will accomplish this by having an art exhibition in our school, in which every student will have an artwork in the show. In order to do this our students need your help! We need black paper to mount each piece of artwork. Mounting the artwork on black paper will make the artwork look professional and presentable, just as they are seen in art galleries, while protecting the artwork as well.
Your generous donation will have a great impact on my students!
These students are from a high needs school, which includes their need to develop their English language skills and their need to develop a sense of community and a good self-image. Sharing the artwork with their peers, family, and community will allow them to become the well-rounded successful individuals that they aspire to be.
