Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom mission is to create a place where students feel safe, supported, brave and able to experiment and learn. Each student has struggled in general education, even with supports in place. Their abilities are many, but they also have disabilities that need to be addressed so that they can learn, remember and generalize skills.

My fourth and fifth grade students are a lovable bunch, full of wonder, curiosity, and fun.

They are learning to work and play together, while also learning to speak, share, read, write and use mathematics. They have learning and social - communication challenges that impact their learning, and they all want very much to be successful.

My Project

My students have special needs and now they and their families are trying to learn from home using their own technology. School is closed for weeks due to the COVID-19 crisis. Some are using parents' cell phones and some can't use any of the online tools.

With a classroom iPad, students may be able to access learning from home, and they can also access apps that are unique to the iPad in the classroom.

The communication apps in iPad would be very helpful to my nonverbal students who currently use pictures to communicate. Our Social Skills curriculum and online learning is best accessed using iPad, but we do not have one.
