Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are dying for a creative outlet! They love performing and showing the world that they are special in their own particular way. Remember wanting to show the world your one special talent? Remember wanting to stand out from the crowd?
Many people believe that the students in my district will not amount to much.
We are in an impoverished, Title 1, urban district where many of the students grow up too quickly. The middle school students often feel like they are falling between the cracks. However, in music class they find their voice and their place among their community. In music, they are allowed to be who they are and create work that embodies everything they love and believe in. However, they need material and instruments to work with!
My Project
With the classroom recorders, xylophones, and rhythm kits requested, my students will be able to create music individually as well as in a group. This will allow them to grow and develop into efficient and independent musicians. They will be able to explore the limitless world of music for themselves and with their classmates.
By adding classroom instruments, my students will learn how to be a better musician, how to take care of instruments, and how to work with others to produce beautiful compositions.
My students are used to receiving the bare minimum.
By giving them instruments to explore and learn on, we will tell them that they are deserving of the highest quality of material and education. We can show them that we believe in their success and we believe in them.
