My students need 24 over-the-ear headphones to fully utilize an amazing internet-based computer program that will support them in passing the California High School Exit Exam.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Extremely amazing but underprivileged and below grade-level 10th graders in an inner-city school that is leading the way for a district that has been struggling to improve student achievement.

This year, students have been blessed to have access to an amazing internet-based program that prepares students to succeed on the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). Receiving support to pass the exit exam by our 10th graders is extremely important because a large number of them have skills that are far below grade level and because their success on this exam will greatly determine whether or not the district will keep our school open, a school that has produced tremendous gains in student achievement.

In order for students to fully access and engage with this internet-based program, they need to be able to hear and listen to the audio tutorials provided by the program. Many of our students struggle with reading but are excellent at listening, especially our English language learners. These students especially do not get the support they need to pass an exam that does not take into consideration that English is not their primary language. The headphones that you will provide these students will expand their channels of learning and allow some students to truly learn from this program that would not be able to otherwise. These students will use your headphones everyday leading up to the exit exam that they will take in the spring.

My students are all great and amazing in their own ways. Many of them are determined to graduate from high school and have dreams of going to college and pursuing their passions. A huge obstacle for them in achieving their goals is passing the state mandated exit exam. Having known my students for a couple years and researched this internet-based program that will prepare them for the exam, I am confident that your donation of a class set of headphones will truly make a difference in my students passing the exit exam and going on to college.
