My students need 12 BRAND NEW copies of the most popular titles in our school library, the Disgusting series. Our current copies are checked out so much, they are falling apart.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Why do we need NEW copies of the number one books in our school library? Because the existing copies have passed through the hands of hundreds of kids and are looking pretty dilapidated! This is a great project to support because you KNOW the kids will love these books. That's a given.
The kids in question attend a K-8 Center in South Florida.
Our school has over 900 students. The books featured here tend to appeal to 2nd through 5th graders, so this project would involve roughly 400 readers. Over 4/5 of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Most are first-generation Americans. Their parents tend to have poor-paying jobs in the local tourism industry. Few of our students get to be taken to the public library, so our SCHOOL library is vitally important in turning these kids into readers.
My Project
And what are these incredibly popular books about? Well, to be honest with you, their themes are pretty disgusting. No kidding! The books have titles like 'Disgusting Animals', 'Disgusting Jobs' and 'Disgusting Plants'... Maybe they wouldn't be OUR first choice for a good read, but for middle and upper elementary school students, they are reading heaven. For them, books don't get much better than this! I've noticed, by the way, that these titles have a very wide appeal: they enthuse reluctant readers and bookworms alike.
