This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

According to the American Obesity Association, about 30.4 percent of teenagers are overweight, and 15.5 percent of teens are obese. These materials are for a Foods and Nutrition class. The students will have the opportunity to explore ways to make healthier eating decisions throughout this course.

I teach a diverse group of students from all walks of life.

We are at a large public school, which is one of the oldest in the neighborhood. My students are looking to gain hands-on skills that they can use throughout life, whether they choose to work in the world of culinary arts or just need to feed themselves and their families.

My Project

For a nutrition class, being able to try out healthy food is important in order for students to be able to make better choices. We have many taste testings and cooking demonstrations planned, but won't be able to do them without any paper goods. We would like small tasting cups and souffle cups so that students can sample and make comparisons of different types of beverages and snacks. The plates and parchment paper will aid us in our food tastings, as well. The gloves are essential for sanitary food preparation.

The students themselves requested from the administration that the Culinary Arts curriculum be added back into their elective options.

They are very motivated and have a lot of great ideas. If we can start out with the basic paper goods, we will have more funds to give towards trying and buying new foods. Your donations to this project will help them to explore the world of food and nutrition with a hands-on approach.
