Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My pre-k children love to create, explore and experiment. What better way to do all these things than by having art materials such as markers and paints. Children in pre-K should have access to markers and paints because these materials support essential early development in ways that go far beyond simple play. When young children draw, color, and paint, they strengthen fine motor skills by practicing how to grip, control, and move their hands—skills that are foundational for writing later on. These tools also encourage creativity and self-expression, allowing children to communicate ideas and emotions even before they have the words to do so.

Using markers and paints helps build cognitive skills.

Children learn about colors, shapes, patterns, and cause-and-effect (for example, what happens when colors mix). This kind of hands-on exploration supports early problem-solving and critical thinking. Additionally, art activities can improve focus and patience, as children engage in tasks that require attention and decision-making.

Social and emotional development is another important benefit. When children create art together, they learn to share materials, cooperate, and appreciate each other’s work. Art can also be calming and give children a healthy outlet for expressing feelings.

Overall, markers and paints are not just art supplies—they are important tools that help young children grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
