Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My main goal for this project is to allow our students to experience sensory activities that may not be available to them at home and currently in our classroom. One item includes a music set that can be used during circle time to encourage participation in a group. This also expands their auditory experience. A body sock and weighted blanket gives some of our kiddos a feeling of safety and grounding when they feel uncomfortable or anxious. To increase their tactile experience and fine motor movements, threading beads and stacking wooden objects increases their likelihood to complete life skills, such as writing or buttoning a shirt.

These objects would completely change the way our students interact with toys and their relationship with peers.

These activities include a rug made to look like a town and building alongside. This activity would encourage our students to play together and understand how important imagination really is. Familiarity of cooking utensils and the experience of "cooking" with the play kitchen would display the possibilities in the world of food, maybe even encouraging them to help their parents or guardians in the kitchen at home!

All of these objects promote the varying sensory needs our students have and life experiences they need to have to grow into big kids and eventually adults! I can only hope I am making a difference in our kiddos lives by increasing their academics and life skills and I know these items on the list would help even more!
