The math games are also incredible and have helped some students struggling with math, understand concepts and work on those skills in a fun and engaging way. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for the donations and we hope you like the thank you notes and pictures that the students were so excited to make you!","fullyFundedDate":1759178651767,"projectUrl":"project/operation-clean-cubbies/9722491/","projectTitle":"Operation: Clean Cubbies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Scott","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8108585_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y386&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758243519182","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8108585"},{"teacherId":10025004,"projectId":9570388,"letterContent":"We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Battle Born Pool and Spa for their incredibly thoughtful and generous donation to our organization. A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park did just that—and more. Thanks to the generosity of several individuals and organizations, I was able to purchase 40 copies of this powerful novel for my students. What unfolded over the course of our novel study was nothing short of transformative.\r\n\r\nThe story of Salva Dut, a real-life \"Lost Boy\" of Sudan, and Nya, a fictional girl living in a Sudanese village decades later, captivated my students from the very first chapter. They were moved by Salva's strength, perseverance, and compassion, and were stunned to learn that his story continued beyond the pages. Many of my students eagerly looked up more about his real-life journey, his organization Water for South Sudan, and the life-changing impact he continues to make today.\r\n\r\nThis novel wasn't just a story for my class—it became a springboard for meaningful discussion and inquiry. We used it to connect with Nevada's 4th Grade Common Core State Standards across reading, writing, and speaking. Students analyzed character development (RL4.3), compared firsthand and secondhand accounts (RI4.6), and engaged in collaborative discussions (SL4.1). Most importantly, they learned to walk in someone else's shoes—to feel empathy, ask questions, and imagine a better world.\r\n\r\nA Long Walk to Water* reminded us all that books can be more than lessons—they can be windows into real-world resilience, empathy, and action.
