This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I've had the pleasure of being the Art Teacher at Hicks Elementary for the past two years. It has been an amazing journey getting to learn and grow with these incredible and talented students. In this role, my goal has been to redefine what we typically think of an art room into a what I call the 'Art Lab'- a space where students not only participate in superior artmaking activities but can also engage in self-guided creative play. I need your help to take my Art Lab to the next level!

With these new creative manipulatives and center activities, my students will be able to use their visual art skills and imagination to create, build, and experiment.

I carefully chose manipulatives, such as Magnitiles and Super-Fun Marble Run, that not only increase students' fine and gross motor schools but require cooperative problem-solving through experimentation. When a student finishes their art project, they can immediately choose one of these extension activities and immerse themselves in creative play. Then, when class time is over, they can quickly clean-up and join their peers.
