My Project

My students have been blessed by DonorsChoose.org this year. As we approach the end of the year, I would like for them to show what they have learned in Literacy and do an independent book study. We have a little over a month left, and my idea is to start them on this journey and then have a book that they can go home and read this summer. I would love for them to continue the joy of reading. I have read to them all year and would like now, for them to show me and themselves what they can accomplish independently. I have a curriculum packet that goes along with this book, which builds comprehension and fluency. I also have a group of 5th graders who come in for extra reading assistance. I believe these books would benefit everyone.

The Truth as Told by Mason Buttle by Leslie Connor, tells of the journey of one child who not only has learning disabilities, but also loses his best friend in an accident for which he is questioned.

This book is a National Book Award Finalist as well as a Schneider Family Book Award Winner. I feel that students can benefit from the lesson behind this story as well as the independence and freedom of a book study such as this one. It will be for all readers of all levels. It will be discussion inspiring and an overall benefit for our classroom.

Time is running out to get these books. As a teacher, I furnish my room with many day to day items, but this is a pretty big expense and I'm asking for your help. Please help me to develop amazing, empathetic readers. Thank you so much for any help!
