My Students

Hi, I teach social studies to students in grades pre-k through the 5th grade at a Title 1 school. This means that more than 86% of our students live at or below poverty level. Our school has worked extremely hard the past few years to ensure that all our students learn and thrive each year.

My students enjoy when I come to their classroom each week and can't wait to learn what it is I have to teach them.

In today's society it is extremely important for children to learn how to treat each other with respect and kindness. Many times children don't even realize how badly they treat each other. I work hard each year to teach my students how to respect and encourage each other through positive praise and respect. Materials that will help my students learn this is vitally important. Books and literature about bullying will help my students grow and mature into responsible and respectful individuals.

My Project

Unfortunately, with budget cuts and other monetary issues schools face today, books about bullying are hard to come by. Books like The Rainbow Fish, A Bad Case of Stripes and The Recess Queen help to provide students with insight into a problem that is growing out of control in our society. Through reading and discussing the situations in these books and other great literature books about bullying, my students will learn how to prevent this problem.
