Help me give my students personal hygiene items for an SOS bin in our classroom. Items such as deodorant, chapstick, feminine products, body spray, etc.
Our school is one of four schools in our district including one primary, one elementary, one middle school, and one high school. We serve students with a 78% poverty rate who quality for free or reduced-price lunch. With that being said, these students lack experiences to build their base knowledge.
I hope to conquer this challenge by offering them rich educational settings, meaningful learning experiences using technology, hands-on artifacts, and real-life applications.
For the 2020-2021 school year, I moved from 3rd grade to 5th grade. I teach 47 fifth-graders who come from our rural community. Our school has recently become 1:1 with Chromebooks for each student. The students at our school are eager to learn, love technology, and always work to do their best, no matter the circumstances.
My Project
I want my students to feel safe at school. Part of that is providing them with items they may need in an emergency situation. If a girl starts her cycle at school, I want her to know she can come grab what she needs from the SOS bin. If a boy is dealing with body odor, I want him to know I have what he needs. If their hair tie broke, they misplaced their mask, they forgot to brush their teeth, they have a stain on their shirt, or chapped lips...I want to make sure they feel comfortable, safe, and provided for at school while they are away from home. This will also prevent having to call parents to leave jobs and come bring needed items to school.
