This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am moving into teaching high school for the first time at a school that serves economically disadvantaged and underrepresented students. Many of the students attending this school may not be able to afford the basic supplies they need to be successful with in-person and digital learning. All of the students want and can achieve, they just need the tools to do so.
Several of these items will be tools they can use in the classroom to engage in interactive learning, collaborative learning, and digital assignments.
Additionally, some of these items will help students study and find alternate explanations for important biological and chemical concepts. Others will help them learn life skills of organization, spatial awareness, and analytical development. Headphones will be used to help students who need text-to-speech accommodations as well as for students who have audio sensory needs to be successful. The Big Fat Notebooks will be used as a supplemental science learning resource that students can use to reinforce, enhance, and extend their learning around critical biology and chemistry concepts we discuss in class. Students will use the adjustable holepunch to keep loose-leaf papers and worksheets/handouts organized in their binders and folders so that they don't get lost and can be retained to study at home and school.
