I teach in a high school that services many low income students as well as a large ELL population. As a way to instill learning, build self-confidence and promote a unified class, I have implemented a reward system in my classroom. We start every class with a bell ringer that covers content learned the day before. All students are required to answer every question every day. This gives me insight into their learning and helps them track their progress in my class. For every question the students answer correctly they each receive a "bio buck" which are laminated bucks that I have created. Once a student earns ten bucks they will pick a reward from the reward box and also a random number for the numbers chart. Each child's input with the numbers chart helps to build a unified class. As a class they will celebrate their successes with a class party day once 10 spots in a row have been filled in on the numbers chart. I will also use these materials for prizes for our escape room unit test reviews as well as other reward-based activities like codon bingo!
These materials will help instill learning, build self-confidence, promote a unified classroom and keep my reward's bucket filled as well as replenish "bio bucks" that need replacing.
The students go crazy for "bio bucks" and really enjoy both the intrinsic and extrinsic rewards that come with this program.
