My students need newer, more engaging books than the ones I currently have which were donated a few years ago by retiring teachers and are now falling apart.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kids come from extremely low income households. They deal with socio - economic situations daily. Most students are dependent on school foods and take home food bags in order to survive. They may be wearing clothes that don't fit and arrive to school with a grumbling tummy, however, they still come to school ready to learn and excited for the day.
Every day my students inspire me to be better.
This is one reason I want to give them the best education I can.
My Project
Currently, the books my students are using are in less than acceptable condition. They were donated to me my first year of teaching (5 years ago) by a teacher that was retiring. The books were already pretty old and have only gotten older. Most books are falling apart at the seams, pages are delicate, and some are ready for the recycling bin. I am asking for a Level J Guided Fiction and Nonfiction Reading Collection, and three different h
Guided Reading Collections (Level K, L and M).
By donating to this project, you can help me ensure that students have newer, more engaging books to read. Of course, I have spent much of my own money trying to supply our classroom with newer books. However, on a teacher's salary, and with 20+ students reading at various levels, it becomes quite hard supplying enough books for each student so as they do not become bored reading the same ones over and over.
Other teachers have also donated books to my classroom. As you can imagine, these books are also used books. I would like to offer the chance for my students to have top-notch books in their hands. Please consider offering the same opportunity to my students.
More than half of students from low‑income households
