This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my ongoing quest to enhance the educational experience for my students at our Title 1 middle school, I started a unique initiative that has proven to be a game-changer in our classroom culture—the "Bobcat Bodega." This special corner of our learning environment doubles as a store and a hub for positive reinforcement, fostering a sense of community and student excellence.

Recognizing the absence of a structured Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) system at our school, I took it upon myself to create the Bobcat Bodega as a way to incentivize and reward students for active participation, consistent use of planners, and acts of kindness.

To make this initiative tangible and exciting, I introduced "Bobcat Bucks"—a currency that students earn and can later exchange at the Bobcat Bodega. My students, both the 6th graders and the 8th graders, were OBSESSED with the Bobcat Bucks and were motivated to earn them in any possible way.

The Bodega, stocked with an enticing variety of snacks and essential school supplies, has become a symbol of motivation and achievement for our students. Not only does it reward their dedication to learning, but it also acts as a practical solution to their immediate needs, offering school supplies like pencils and erasers without the hassle of an after-school store run. The requested materials will help restock the Bobcat Bodega for (hopefully!) the rest of the school year.
