My Students

A typical day in my classrooms has three different classes, each at different academic levels, working on reading, writing, and grammar. Throughout the year the students work hard to improve their reading/skill through a variety of reading and topics.

My students attend a 5-6 building.

For many, this is the first time they've entered a new school since kindergarten. For others, they have traveled around the country and we are another stop. The students come from a variety of home backgrounds and enter the classroom at varied reading levels. Over the course of the year, students will work to improve their reading skills through a wide variety of reading topics and passages. Students are encouraged to work hard and become independent learners and thinkers.

My Project

I am requestimg sets of 4 different picture books, March On, Freedom on the Menu, Teammates, and Brother's in Hope. These reading books will be used to enhance two of our units during the year. We often use picture books to help enhance a lesson. One of our big skills in 5th grade is to support their answers with evidence from their reading. With more copies in the classroom, students will be able to go back into the text and find the evidence they need and quote it correctly. It will also allow the students a much more up close look at the pictures and illustrations, parts of the story that help tell these stories.

These books will allow the students to get a close look at lives and events that they do not know much about.

They'll be introduced to historical events that have impacted the world they live in. They'll learn about challenges that people have faced and overcome, challenges that will help them see the world a little different.
