Our students are bright, motivated, and enthusiastic about life and trying new things! Being a Kindergarten through 8th grade school, we are unique in that our Junior High section (7th-8th grade) is relatively small.
Many of our teachers and students participate and lead in many different activities- band kids also play basketball, the volleyball kids are in choir and chess club, choir kids are in robotics, softball, and student government- the list goes on.
These students are very well rounded in their skills, and have learned to thrive in many roles even in the space of one day.
Our Spirit Line is a prime example of this. Our squad is comprised of girls that are involved many sports and activities. With so many of the same students and families being involved in several different activities throughout the school, funding and fund raising can be difficult. Families can only give so much when having to spread between different groups. We want to obtain roll-out mats for our Spirit Line so that they can stunt and tumble safely in practice and at games!
My Project
Although we have had a Spirit Line for the past three years, we have been limited in what we were able and allowed to do because we didn't have the proper equipment. What makes a Spirit Line stand out from a Dance team is the ability to stunt and tumble. However, there is a safety requirement that mats be the proper material and not skid on our slippery gym floor. Helping us buy these proper Cheer Mats will enable us to teach our squad how to stunt and for them to do it safely.
Stunting is one of the major elements in cheer that makes it a team sport- it teaches students to rely on and trust one another.
Having these mats will not only help our squad be better at stunting, but will help them be a better team!
