This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in an urban area of the Bronx. I serve a diverse group of students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Many are English language learners and come from low-income families. They are so excited to have a visual arts class where they can express themselves. This year, I’ve been serving a lot of self-contained, special education classrooms as well.

My art class is a safe haven where students can feel free to take creative risks and express their emotions.

Students in my school typically don't have access to art supplies at home. They are bright, creative, and eager young scholars. They would all really benefit from your support with materials and mediums which they don't get to use except in our art classroom.

My Project

This will be my third year teaching a middle school art program. We meet once a week for 2 hours . Students have a safe haven where they can express themselves freely, release some stress and have fun with their friends while learning new skills. My students from grades 6-8 are committed to working on their portfolios for specialized art high schools, improving their skills and having fun with materials that aren’t often used during the regular school day like watercolor, tempera and acrylic paint, printmaking materials, sketchbooks, digital arts, and more!

My students love using Acrylic Paint on canvas, it is hands down their favorite art club activity but we are out of canvases.

I am asking for enough canvases in various sizes to keep us going for the rest of the school year. We appreciate all your support for our visual art club.
