Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine learning to count by counting the same chips again and again. Now imagine counting frogs, turtles, horses and monkeys! If you are five, that is definitely so much more fun and motivating!
We are a Dual Language Kindergarten class in need of some counters and games that will help us learn basic math.
At our school, math is learned by doing. Besides the math lessons and daily activities, students practice math in centers where they can do activities and play games. Math is also integrated throughout the day during Language Arts, Social Studies and Science.
My Project
We are asking for math counters (animals, colorful links, tactile numbers, and number bags) that go with our Units of Inquiry and will help us integrate math. During our unit on life cycles, our students will not only learn about how frogs grow and change, but will use little frogs to learn about math. We are also asking for some fun math games that will help us learn number sense. These games will be used throughout the year to practice number sense, and to support students who may fall behind.
Basic number sense is the basis for all math to come in their lives as students.
We want to make sure we give our students every opportunity to practice and develop a strong number sense, so they will be successful mathematicians one day.
